PURPOSE OF POSITION

As the Deputy Head of Care your role in addition to the duties of a Senior Care are to support the Head of Care in all aspects of department management, including taking complete charge of the department in the absence of the Head of Care.

As the Deputy Head of Care you are expected to take responsibility for ensuring that our guests receive a level of care that displays a commitment to the highest standards and Calvert Kielder ‘s ethos. Our aim is to promote a positive caring environment which focuses upon and addresses the needs of each individual so that they can develop skills and reach their potential.

 

All staff are required to undertake an Enhanced DBS Check.

GENERAL SUMMARY

  • Motivate and enable staff members to meet their full potential as effective practitioners of “High Quality Care”.
  • Deployment, support and supervision of the care staff team as per agreed policies and procedures, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • To share with other staff in the provision of the Calvert Kielder’s Respite Care guest’s personal care needs in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.
  • To help in the care of the guest’s physical environment and in general day to day activities of Calvert Kielder.
  • To work with the activity team in providing the full range of activities available for the guests of Calvert Kielder.
  • Provision of night shifts (where necessary).
  • To support and where necessary and able run activities.

CORE FUNCTIONS

To ensure that all junior staff contribute to the best of their ability in the efficient running of the care department and the creation of the right atmosphere.

  • Working with the Head of Care provide induction training and reviews for all new care staff including taking an active role within the Performance Review Process.
  • To carry out one to one training with staff members to improve performance and to ensure that they are meeting the necessary standards.
  • To oversee the apprentice programme and take the primary role in the development of the apprentices.
  • To assist the Head of care to ensure that safe working practices and maintained and followed at all times.
  • To ensure that maintenance and servicing of the departments equipment is in accordance with our policies and procedures.
  • To promote the development of respite care business and other services provided to our guests.
  • To compile and maintain all administrative documentation required by legislation and governing bodies.
  • To welcome and familiarise guests with the layout of our facilities including procedures. (as per arrival day procedures).
  • To read and write reports, take part in staff meetings / handovers and attend training activities / courses as identified.
  • To have in depth knowledge of the care procedures / policies in place at Calvert Kielder and to assist the Head of Care with the production and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • To observe and enforce Health and Safety Regulations.
  • To fully understand the confidential nature of the work and deal with any information in a sensitive manner and in accordance with GDPR.
  • To participate in the Performance Review Process.
  • Undertaking other duties not specifically stated which from time to time are necessary due to operational requirement.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work on their own initiative.
  • The ability to work with and manage other staff.
  • The ability to work as part of a team as well as be able to self-motivate when under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new ideas.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both written and verbal.
  • In depth knowledge of the Social model of disability.
  • In depth knowledge of current best practice in the areas of Person Centred Approach, Health and Safety and Assessment of Risk.
  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of the Care Standards Act.
  • A good understanding of Adult Safeguarding.
  • Positive and enthusiastic “can do” attitude.
  • Ability to take constructive criticism, and apply it.
  • Disciplined, hardworking and prepared to go the extra mile.
  • A strong, supportive team player who has a healthy sense of competition.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a care environment.
  • Mature, flexible and professional.
  • Excellent personal standards, including time keeping and personal appearance.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care or equivalent

Medication Administration

Food Hygiene Certificate

First Aid Qualification

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care or equivalent

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management or working towards this qualification (or equivalent)

Full Driving Licence.

PLACE & HOURS OF WORK

The position is based at Calvert Kielder, Kielder Water & Forest Park, Falstone, Hexham, Northumberland, NE48 1BS.

Hours of work based on 40 hours a week, working within an annualised hours scheme.

Do you have good organisational and administrative skills?

We are looking for an assistant to support the Head of Finance and management team in the running of finance, payroll, and other finance tasks across the organisation.

Your tasks will include, but are not restricted to:

  • Reconciliation of bank statements, control accounts and credit control.
  • Timely processing and payment of purchase invoices and raising of sales invoices.
  • Preparing and inputting journals
  • Preparation of VAT returns.
  • Responsible for processing and reconciling payroll transactions including the calculation and submission of PAYE/NI contributions.
  • Process amendments including starters, leavers, contract changes, tax code changes, payment of tax, NI and pension contributions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Either a recognised finance / payroll qualification, a recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA, AAT, CIMA) or proven equivalent professional experience. Calvert Kielder would also be prepared to support professional development for the right candidate if qualifications had not been gained already.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 1 year experience within a finance and payroll department.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of Trial Balances and double entry accounting.
  • A good understanding of payroll and pension processes
  • Good knowledge of ICT packages and systems (Xero, Word, Excel)
  • Understanding of financial regulations and procedures.

 REMUNERATION & BENEFITS

A Pro-rata 15 hour a week basic Starting Salary of £26,227.50 per annum, (£10,491 pro-rata). This rate is negotiable for the right candidate.

We are looking for permanent full-time and part-time  candidates to join our housekeeping team who are responsible for preparing our accommodation for our guests.

Calvert Kielder has a main centre, which incorporates our respite care facility, with 24 bedrooms and our grounds contain 17 self-catering chalets including “George Clarke’s” SkyDen” Our staff are responsible for the cleaning and preparation of all of our accommodation and laundry.

Staff work on average 35 hours per week, but part-time hours are also available.
