Residential and day visits in the stunning Kielder Water & Forest Park. Our innovative programmes encourage children, young people and students of all abilities to learn more about themselves, build confidence and self-esteem through challenging and adventurous activities. We work in partnership with the Kielder Observatory to offer unique and enlightening dark skies experiences.

An action-packed programme of land and water based activities plus fully accessible and catered on-site accommodation. Our team will tailor an overnight or multi day programme of exhilarating, fun and challenging activities.
Field Trips
Our centre is the perfect base from which to explore Kielder Water & Forest Park’s unique manmade environment and Northumberland National Park, the most northerly, most remote from large urban areas, least visited and least populated of the 11 National Parks of England and Wales. The Northumberland International Dark Sky Park boasts the largest area of protected night sky in Europe. Students can earn about the park’s wildlife corridors, astronomy, geography, geoscience and structural engineering. We offer catered accommodation and break out meeting or classroom areas for students to record their findings and prepare their presentations.
Day Visits
Visit for the day and experience the Kielder ZipCoaster, Europe’s 1st AvatarOne™, dare to fly on the King Swing or relish the confidence that comes from mastering the 15 metre High Ropes Course. Choose from our range of exhilarating activities and packages. Enjoy a freshly prepared meal in our dining room or bring your own packed lunch.
Help bring the water vole back to Kielder. The water vole – made famous through the ‘Ratty’ character in the Wind in the Willows children’s story – was once a familiar sight on our local waterways but sadly numbers have declined dramatically in recent years. The Northumberland Wildlife Trust is currently involved in a project to restore water vole populations into the Kielder catchment of the north Tyne, with a view to their eventual spread throughout the catchment and surrounding areas, and your school could get involved.

Accommodation & Facilities
Our fully accessible accommodation is on-site and includes; access to free WiFi, use of the hydrotherapy pool and access to our bar. Menu options are available; our chefs cater for all dietary requirements and tastes.
Safety & Staffing
For your peace of mind, we are registered with AALS (Adventure Activities Licensing Service) and are a member of the IOL (Institute of Outdoor Learning). All activities are led by experienced and qualified instructors, who hold National Governing Body Qualifications including RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and British Canoeing. Our staff have undertaken specialist training in running safe activities for those with different abilities. All staff are fully Enhanced DBS checked and Calvert Kielder is registered with the Care Quality Commission.
